Help accelerate Canada’s electricity transition - join the Smart Grid Innovation Network Canada’s Board of Directors! Share your leadership, expertise, and perspective by working alongside a dedicated group of board directors, members, and staff committed to accelerating Canada’s electricity transition by connecting the organizations, knowledge, and implementation capacity needed to move from ambition to action. 

SGIN is currently seeking interested candidates to fill the following Board of Director seats:

  • One (1) Policy Seat - 2 year term starting June 2026

  • Two (2) Utility Seats - 2 year term starting June 2026

  • One (1) Student Seat - 2 year term starting June 2026

For the Policy Seat, we are seeking an individual with experience in energy policy, government relations, regulatory affairs, or advocacy related to the energy sector.

For the Utility Seats, we are looking for representatives from utilities with experience or interest in grid modernization, electrification, smart energy technologies, and/or utility innovation.

The Student Seat is intended for a current student who is passionate about the future of energy and interested in contributing to SGIN’s activities and strategic direction.

Board positions are open to current SGIN members in good standing. As a national member-driven organization, SGIN values diverse perspectives and encourages participation from individuals across Canada who are passionate about advancing smart energy technologies, collaboration, and innovation.

SGIN is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and representative board. We encourage expressions of interest from candidates of all backgrounds, regions within Canada, and experience levels.

About

SGIN Canada was founded to advocate for the many benefits of smart, clean energy in Canada. As a non-profit, member-driven organization, we enable the decarbonization and electrification of Canada’s Grid by supporting real implementation and providing centralized focus for knowledge, best practices and experiences from our leading Smart Grid implementation communities. 

About the SGIN Board of Directors

The SGIN Board of Directors is comprised of industry leaders and representatives from across the smart energy sector. Directors play a crucial role in guiding SGIN’s strategic direction and supporting its mission and iniatitives.

SGIN Board directors are expected to:

  • Actively participate in board meetings (6x/year) and strategic discussions

  • Support SGIN’s mission, initiatives, and member activities

  • Provide leadership, governance, and industry insight

  • Help strengthen relationships and collaboration across the energy sector

  • Champion innovation, education, and smart energy advancement in Canada

  • Support diversity, inclusion, and broad sector representation within the organization

Board positions are volunteer-based. Directors are also encouraged to participate in SGIN events, trade & learning missions, webinars, courses, and industry initiatives throughout the year.

Expression of Interest Process

Current SGIN members in good standing are eligible to express interest in serving on the Board of Directors.

Individuals interested in one of the open board seats are invited to email jenn@sgin.ca and provide the a cover letter and CV which should include following information. Your submitted application package will be used ONLY for the purposes of the election and will be distributed to members when voting opens.

  • Title and organization

  • Contact information

  • Board seat of interest

  • Short biography or summary of experience
